Profile-Department of Management studies

DMS is one of the vital departments in SVCET. DMS develop the budding mangers in the classrooms for the bright future of India .

The objective of the programme is to develop young men and women into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, proceeding leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society, Equip students with the required conceptual and interpersonal skills and sense of social purpose for managerial decision-making, develop leadership capabilities to act as change agents and be a source of motivation in the organizations they work in, nurture the desire to excel in performance without compromising integrity, honesty and fairness through high-impact pedagogical methods, helps the students to develop themselves into top-quality decision makers, conceptual foundations and interpersonal and social skills, built on values of honesty, integrity and a sense of fairness. The students learn to think through managerial issues and decisions in complex, less-structured situations in holistic and multi-disciplinary perspectives to generate and evaluate alternatives and arrive at innovative solutions. In-class discussions, group preparation and presentations, field research and project work prepare the students to meet the challenges of the managerial profession. Different co-curricular and extracurricular activities organized by the students themselves sharpen their organizing abilities, nurture their leadership qualities and re-orient their social skills.

The School of Management Studies of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering & Technology (SVCET) offers a two year full time Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme with around 300 students, with the approval of AICTE and affiliated to the JNTU,  Anantapur. The programme comprises of 4 Semesters. This programme aims at building managerial competence among the students providing  a theoretical foundation in Management as well as a practical orientation towards management practices in such a way that they are not only equipped to perform as effective managers but also to shoulder greater responsibilities in the future as they move up the hierarchy

The School of Management Studies (SMS) organized State Level Seminars/Management meets to help students in developing an integrated view of Management. The students are evaluated continuously on various dimensions. Learning is facilitated through a mix of classroom teaching, seminars, case studies, industry internship, interaction with industry and society, simulations, games, quizzes, group discussions, etc. It has committed, excellent faculty which is one of the core competence of this Institution. School of Management has 46 Faculty Members; many of them are pursuing Ph.D

Library:
The Department has 150 Titles and 1000 No of  books in Central Library for MBA course during the short time and increasing the number of books periodically.The Department is subscribed with 5 National and International Magazines and also 19 National and International Journals. The Department is also maintaining 100 Books exclusively in the Departmental Library for the benefit of the Students.

Preparatory Classes:
Students come from diverse educational backgrounds. To enable a smooth transition, the department offers two weeks preparatory courses to help students get acquainted with the new environment, new community, a new way of life and most importantly the course and teaching style at SMS. The preparatory classes are intensive with modules covering Introduction to Management, Quantitative Methods, Accounting, Information technology and Soft skills. These courses are optional but the knowledge of these courses will definitely help the students in their regular course work.

Guest Lectures:
Guest lectures by industry professionals are a regular feature of the program that provide good exposure and feel of the corporate environment to the students.

Industrial Visits:
Industrial visits are organized frequently that will strengthen the practical exposure of the students to the industry.

Project Work:
It is an attempt to bridge the gap between the academic institutions and the corporate world. It provides an opportunity to the students to experience the corporate environment and combine classroom learning with real life situations in the organizations. It has to be undertaken from commencement of Semester IV.

Placement:
The College has a full fledged placement cell to cater to the needs of successful students for projects and placements.

Adjunct Faculty:

Department of management studies has adjunct faculty from IIM’s, other premier institutes of India and CEO’s, Vice president’s and other senior level managers of multinational companies for teaching post graduate and undergraduate students in a specific field of their expertise, help in developing  the class syllabus and ensuring that the syllabus meets department and college standards by staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field.
