About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in 1998, along with the inception of the Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology (SVCET), with a sanctioned intake of 40 students. The annual sanctioned intake was later increased to 60 in the academic year 2001-02, and then increased to 120 in the academic year 2009-2010 and then got further increased to 180 in the academic year 2014-15. In 2009, the CSE department started a Master’s of Technology (M. Tech.) programme with a sanctioned intake of 18. Due to high demand for Computer Science professionals from the industry, M.Tech. (CSE II Shift) with a sanctioned intake of 18 and M.Tech. (CS) with sanctioned intake of 18 were started in 2011.

The undergraduate programme of the CSE department was first accredited in the year 2006 for 3 years and got re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in the year 2011 for 3 years, and then in 2015 for 3 years, in 2018 for 3 years and in 2022 for 3 years that is valid till 2025.

Our B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering program at SVCET is hands-on, industry-oriented and career-focused program that blends theory and research with practical engineering fundamentals to prepare the students to succeed in this increasingly autonomous and interconnected world. Scope of Computer Science professionals encompasses various sectors including Information Technology (IT) firms, financial services, healthcare units, automotive industry, robotic automation, and numerous others.

The CSE department has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, Wi-Fi enabled class rooms with overhead projectors to facilitate e-Learning, a well-equipped seminar hall, a well-stocked department library and its high faculty-to-student ratio.

The curricula of programmes have been designed to cater to the ever changing needs and demands of IT industry. In order to give due importance to applied as well as theoretical aspects of computing, the curricula focus on holistic learning and empowering students to develop the engineering skills for problem solving using computing sciences. The choice-based system of electives gives a variety of choices for the students to develop expertise in their area of interest.

The CSE department has active student chapters of professional societies such as ACM, CSI, IEEE and CodeChef within campus which regularly conduct coding competitions and sessions on open source software development.

The CSE department periodically organizes various Short Term Training Programs (STTP), Faculty Development Programs (FDP) for knowledge dissemination and professional development.

The students journey in Computer Science and Engineering at SVCET consists of hands-on, experiential learning in small groups facilitated by faculty with real-word experience. Students will be trained to apply their intellectual curiosity and creativity to enhance their understanding of topics in algorithms, programming in C, JAVA, Python operating systems, computer architecture, database management, cloud computing. computer networks, artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering and Internet of Things. At the same time, they will get a strong foundation in the fundamentals to cultivate critical thinking, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills that will accelerate their path, whether they plan to go into industry or further their academic studies after graduation.

Our CSE department has signed MoU with Infosys for Spring Board Programme and received Advanced Partner College status from Infosys for Spring Board Program. Our department has also signed MoUs with the following reputed IT industries which help students to pursue summer/winter internships, onsite training and support faculties to engage in collaborative consultancy research projects.

  • IBM Centre of Excellence.
  • Sun Academic Initiative (SAI) School.
  • Oracle Academy for Advance Computer Science Program.
  • SAP India Pvt. Ltd.

These relationships facilitate joint research, funded projects, and the opportunity to learn the latest technologies. Experts from industries and leading institutions are invited every fortnight for technical lectures under the banner of association activities. In addition, the CSE department also organizes several workshops on emerging technologies for the benefit of students to supplement their curriculum. This facilitates our students to enrich their knowledge and also to be up to date on current industry trends.

Further, students are sent on industrial visits to companies, where they undergo onsite training at industries. The CSE department Industry Advisory Board includes senior executives from IBM, Microsoft, Infosys, Wipro, etc.

Careers

The objective of the B.Tech. program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is to prepare students for careers involving innovation and problem solving using computational techniques and technologies, to undertake advanced studies for research careers or to further their Entrepreneurship. Graduates from SVCET with degrees in Computer Science and Engineering will find themselves in a variety of environments – academia, research, industry, government, and private or not-for-profit organizations. The opportunities are enormous.
